I joined Wealthy Affiliate in 2017, but I’ve only been active since February 2020. I feel that now would be a good time to publish a review of my development at Wealthy Affiliate because I experienced a fundamental change of fortune which began 2 to 3 weeks ago.
This is an honest review of my journey.
Hi, my name is Garry
My first blog for this website was: “How to build a website”
As you can see, July 15 was when I started working on this website. It marked a significant shift in style, and approach. Since then I have developed four distinct categories for this site:
- Affiliate Marketing
- Books and films
And most importantly I began channeling all my energy into ONE website. What a fool I’ve been, running about between 5 websites. Crazy!!!
A singular purpose, I believe, is a major key.
The following screenshot is an example of what began to happen a couple of weeks ago.
4 or 5 days ago the percentage increase was over 52,000%.
A few hours ago, the Total Page Views was 911.
I remember because 911 has been a significant number since 2008. Presently, my site is attracting over 100 page views per day, and most of them are return visitors which is very heartening.
Update: Today, August 18, four days later;
I had just begun an online business course when I came across the word ‘blog’ in the recommended reading.
I’d heard this word before but I wasn’t sure what it meant. I noticed it was a different color than the rest of the words and thought I might get a definition if I clicked on it.
What I got was an article advising me to head over to another site which turned out to be Wealthy Affiliate.
I took up free membership, and within the specified seven days had upgraded to premium.
I realized there was much to be gained by doing so.
I could have continued on as a free member for as long as I wanted to. In fact, now that I think of it, nobody ever told me what I needed to do to get out.

Then I gave up the business course – it was tedious, centering around business event planning (much the same as wedding planning, yuk).
Then I promptly began spending all my free time playing the StarCraft II video game and continued doing that for almost 3 years. I got really good. I’m now on my third laptop. (Stay away from Acer)
At the beginning of the year, I could not understand why the Australian government had not closed all of Australia’s international airports but hoped they would get around to it soon, no matter how much pushback they got. It never happened, not until it was too late.
At the start of February, I gave my self a mental kicking for all my procrastination, and just got stuck in. Into Wealthy Affiliate that is.
I was going to break records!
By the beginning of March, I was going okay… I thought.
I had written 4 blogs, none of them indexed, still waiting. Then I began to have doubts about my keywords, so I changed them on the articles I’d already published.
Big mistake, because after publishing 3 more blogs, somebody mentioned permalinks. “Oh no, what have I done, my articles will never get indexed”, I thought.
So, too embarrassed to tell anybody (there was an easy way to fix the problem but I never got to hear about it), I built a whole new website and transferred all my stuff to that one. I took it all back to Wealthy Affiliate and published it into the new site.
Then the new site started to break, so I took everything back to the old site. I didn’t write anything new for seven weeks. Everything was a mess. I kept having to go back and fix things as they came to mind, and I still hadn’t thought of everything, and my articles still weren’t getting ranked by Google.
I kept hiding them, silly me. Too many “cunning plans”.
I think it was halfway through April when my first article got indexed then a second. I was extremely happy about this until I went searching for my newly indexed articles. I couldn’t find them anywhere. I gave up after searching for one through the first 15 pages on Google.
I gritted my teeth and soldiered on.
The training was very good and the traffic was beginning to pick up. The only trouble was that none of the traffic was coming from Google. It was all coming from Facebook and Twitter and mostly after promotions I’d paid for. Not a cent was generated, but I didn’t give up.
It was a huge relief when I began to receive payments from Youngevity (nutritional supplements), but nowhere near enough to celebrate. “After all that work”, I thought.
By July, I had 24 posts on my main site and 10 to 15 on the other two experimental sites, Nothing was working.
I was banging my head on the proverbial wall.
“Oh, so that’s it! Work hard and get nowhere, or do nothing and get hugely rewarded. Oh the dark arts of affiliate marketing”
I immediately stopped what I had been doing and got started in a new direction using this site.
I started making YouTube clips, stopped writing long boring articles, and changed to a friendlier more authentic, and simpler style.
I am fully aware that I’m making myself very vulnerable here, but what the heck.
There were many other trials and tribulations, a lot of it is a bit fuzzy now. I just feel that I am finally making progress.
If you think you seem to be stuck dear reader, don’t try to fix things yourself. At Wealthy Affiliate, I had access to an abundance of help but failed to take advantage of it.
Fortunately, I kept going.
The Google Site Kit figures speak for themselves.
If I haven’t put you off, perhaps you might give Wealthy Affiliate a try, and see if you can avoid the holes I fell into.
